woodsmen’s team row 1: carter, j .; vanslyke, j.; matoushek, m.; fllbey, r.; sands, a.; walroth, c.; row 2: knott, w.; laskowski, h.; babon, j.; seneca, d.; kolhonen, b,; clemmo, e.; beattie, e.; row 3: weaver, s.; lillie, b.; bradley, r.; owe, m.; missing; g. j. hoyt (advisor-coach) the paul smith’s college woodsmen’s team is one of the most competitive and best known collegiate woodsmen’s team in the northeastern united states, they placed 1st and 3rd in the 1970 fall woodsmen’s meet at the university of new hampshire. in the first annual blue ox woodsmen’s competition with the wanakena ranger school all three teams from paul smith’s won desicive victories against the ranger school. axe throwing, speed chopping, fire building, crosscut sawing and log splitting are a few of the events in every meet, with professor gould hoyt as an advisor, the woodsmen’s team will go to montreal to compete in the intercollegiate woods­ men’s competition at mac donald college this winter, also they will participate in the saranac lake winter carnival and the adirondack small business exhibition held at the lake placid Olympic arena. on the weekend of may 8th and 9th the paul smith’s college woodsmen’s team will host the intercollegiate woodsmen’s competition, this will be the highlight of our woodsmen’s team’s activities this school year. 72
