M o t e l S a r a n a c The College has leased the Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake, and already has begun to use some of its facilities. The Hotel Saranac is one of the largest and most modern hotels in the North Country. It was opened in 1927 on the site of the former high school. At that time it was estimated to have cost $690,000.00 for the 96 room, each with bath, hotel in the center of Saranac Lake. Freshman foods labs have been preparing and serving the evening meal on Monday and Tues day evenings since the beginning of the second semester. Next fall the sophomore hotel students will spend alternating periods of seven or eight weeks on campus, or staying at the hotel. While at the hotel they will be able to gain experience in all the operating departments. During the residence in the hotel they will take their hotel professional subjects such as quantity foods, menu planning, special foods, purchasing and hotel management. When the students return to the campus they will then take the regular academic work. Over the summer the college plans to make certain changes in the hotel so that it can serve as a classroom as well as a hotel. With the acquisition of the facilities of the Hotel Saranac, the College is in hopes of produc ing better hotelmen and women to take their place in this rapidly developing field. 109
