MILDRED
BUXTON
—
HER
QUIET
STRENGTH
Militant
feminists
say
with
jus
tice
that
women
should
not
only
have
equal
opportunity
with
men,
but
equal
recompense
for
compar
able
work.
However,
it
is
difficult
to
meas
ure
on
any
kind
of
pay
scale
a
woman’s
worth
as
a
wife
and
mother.
It
is
virtually
immeasur
able.
W
hat
we
do
know
is
that
some
women,
that
many
women,
really,
are
of
a
worth
that
is
recognized
and
appreciated
but
a
worth
that
is
not
payable
in
dollars
and
cents
on
the
market
place.
Their
steadfastness
o
f
character,
their
honesty,
their
inspirational
qualities,
their
love
o
f
family
is
such
as
to
be
a
blessing
and
the
very
core
essential
to
the
carrying
on
of
the
highest
ideals
of
civil
ization.
This
may
sound
corny.
It
may
be
trite.
But
it
is
true.
Such
women
give
strength
and
inspiration
not
only
to
their
hus
bands.
but
to
their
children,
and
to
all
who
know
them.
Mildred
Buxton
was
a
person
of
caliber,
o
f
quiet
quality,
of
wis
dom
and
strength
and
a
sense
of
humor
and
compassion.
Most
of
all
she
was
the
staunch
supporter
for
her
husband
who,
during
the
last
quarter-century,
built
Paul
Smith’s
College
from
150
students
to
1100,
improving
its
programs,
its
faculty,
its
facilities.
Mildred
Buxton
went
through
major
surgeries,
and
did
so
with
courage.
One
can’t
possibly
properly
measure
what
she
and
others
like
her
mean
to
their
families,
to
society.
W
hat
they
are,
how
they
instruct
and
inspire,
is
the
very
essence
of
the
carrying
on
of
hu
man
life
with
integrity
and
high
purpose.
W
e
have
reason
to
wonder
and
despair
about
human
follies
and
degradation,
but
we
also
have
rea
son
to
take
heart
from
Mildred
Buxton
and
others
like
her,
who
should
give
us
pride
in,
and
hope
for,
mankind.
Losing
such
a
person
creates
a
void
in
the
lives
of
those
she
touched
and
especially
in
the
life
o
f
her
husband.
So
our
condolences
go
out
to
Chet
Buxton,
who
has
been
a
steadfast
builder
in
the
face
o
f
ex
tremely
difficult
problems.
For
him
and
for
the
Paul
Smith’s
community
we
pray
for
strength.
