Hotel
Show
One
of
the
highlights
of
the
school
year
for
the
sophomore
hotel
students
will
be
the
annual
visit
to
New
York
City
to
partici
pate
in
the
activities
of
the
57th
National
Hotel
and
Motel
Educa
tion
Exposition
which
is
popularly
known
as
“
THE
HOTEL
SHOW.”
This
year
it
is
again
scheduled
at
the
New
York
Coliseum,
but
at
new
dates,
October
23
through
the
26th.
The
annual
Paul
Smith’s
Col
lege
Student
and
Alumni
Get-
together
will
be
held
Monday
eve
ning,
October
23rd
at
the
Summit
Hotel,
East
51st
Street
and
Lex
ington
Avenue.
Fred
Kesch,
PSC
*68,
has
promised
us
an
outstand
ing
evening.
Approximately
one
hundred
stu
dents
will
be
making
the
trip.
The
College
has
been
assigned
Booth
No.
3020
on
th
third
floor
of
the
Coliseum.
Take
the
escalators
to
the
third
floor.
It
is
located
to
the
left
of
the
Salon
of
Culinary
Art.
There
will
be
serveral
luncheons,
lectures,
clinics
and
seminars
of
interest
to
all.
All
Alumni
are
encouraged
to
attend
the
Paul
Smith’s
Party.

New
Opportunities
Professor
Harry
Purchse,
who
returned
last
year
to
head
the
Hotel
department,
has
introduced
two
innovations
designed
to
give
students
broader
opportunities
to
gain
practical
experience
—
the
European
Study
Tour
and
the
Black
Tie
Dinner.
Both
have
met
with
great
success
and
promise
to
become
yearly
events.
The
first
European
Study
Tour
was
offered
last
summer.
This
tour
supplements
the
traditional
sum
mer
Work
Practice
Program
in
the
Hotel
Saranac
by
enabling
students
with
a
special
interest
in
travel
and
tourism
to
go
abroad
and
study
the
operation
of
a
wide
variety
of
resorts,
restaurants
and
hotels,
as
well
as
meet
with
top
European
travel
authorities.
Six
teen
students
signed
up
and,
with
Mr.
and
Mrs.
Purchase,
toured
England,
Wales,
Scotland,
France,
and
Switzerland
rom
June
25
to
July
29.
Mr.
Purchase,
desiring
to
expand
educational
opportunities
in
the
Hotel
curriculum,
visited
London
over
the
Christmas
break
to
meet
with
Professor
Medlik
of
the
Uni
versity
of
Surrey.
He
was
inter
ested
in
exploring
the
possibility
of
summer
classes
for
PSC
stu
dents
at
that
university.

Tuesday,
Septem

11

12.
Enrollment
for
the
school
year
numbers
1,035
students.
Students
arrived
on
Saturday
and
Sunday
at
the
campus
on
Lower
St.
Regis
Lake
and
were
welcomed
by
the
faculty
and
Stu
dent
Council
Orientation
Commit
tee
as
well
as
by
members
of
the
Saranac
Lake
Rotary
Club.
Registrations
for
the
Depart
ments
of
Forestry,
Hotel
and
Re
sort
Management
and
Liberal
Arts
was
on
Monday
for
Freshmen
and
Tuesday
for
Sophomores.
Classes
began
Wednesday
at
8
a.m.
The
new
million
dollar
Science
Building,
largest
on
campus,
as
well
as
a
new
lecture
and
recrea
tion
building
on
the
nearby
Gab
riels
campus
will
be
ready
for
this
academic
year.
NEW
FACULTY
Dr.
Buxton
also
announced
the
appointment
of
four
men
to
the
faculty,
which
totals
seventy
mem
bers.
The
new
faculty
are:

C.
FEE
—
as
as
sistant
professor
of
surveying.
Mr.
Fee
has
a
B.S.
degree
from
the
New
York
State
College
of
For
estry.
A
licensed
land
surveyor,
a
member
of
the
New
York
State
Association
of
Professional
Land
Surveyors,
Mr.
Fee
for
several
years
served
with
the
New
York
State
Department
of
Conservation
as
a
land
surveyor
responsible
for
all
phases
of
land
acquisition,
in
cluding
property
line
surveys,
ap
praisals,
negotations,
and
land
title
investigations.
He
is
a
fellow
mem
ber
of
the
American
Congress
of
Surveying
and
Mapping.
Mr.
and
Mrs.
Fee
and
two
chil
dren
are
residents
of
Tupper
Lake
