After
the
death
of
Dr.
Pickett
in
1967,
Dr.
McKee
was
appointed
Read
of
the
Liberal
Arts
Depart
ment.
He
served
in
this
capacity
until
his
retirement.
Dr.
McKee’s
wit
and
his
humor
were
widely
known
and
appreciat
ed
by
his
students
and
colleagues.
His
distinguished
career
is
a
con
stant
source
of
enlightenment
to
all
who
have
known
him.

Dr.
McKee
enjoyed
life
and
people,
his
colleagues
and

joyed
him.

advisor

rooting

two
unusual
speciman
trees,
the
very
rare
Dawn
Redwood
and
the
unusual
Corkscrew
Willow,
donated
to
Saranac
Lake’s
Adirondack
Ar
boretum
at
Sunset
by
Mrs.
Ruth
Smiley,
naturalist.
The
Dawn
Redwood
was
believed
to
be
extinct
until
several
trees
were
discovered
in
an
isolated
val
ley
in
China
in
1948.
It
is
directly
related
to
the
Western
Sequoias
of
the
United
States,
but
unlike
those
giants,
it
attains
a
height
of
about
100
feet
at
maturity.
The
Cockscrew
Willow,
although
not
native
to
the
area,
is
expected
to
thrive
as
it
can
survive
severe
climatic
conditions.
Mr.
Fasking
expects
the
seed
lings
to
be
thoroughly
rooted
and
to
have
attained
the
advisable
height
of
18
inches
for
planting
by
next
spring.
He
will
then
choose
an
appropriate
site
within
the
Ar
boretum,
plant
and
mark
with
their
Lati
nand
English
namess.
